Edenfield Through Time contains 180 photographs of which 90 are old photographs, some printed in a sepia tone and some in full colour. These photographs are printed alongside a contemporary full colour photograph which illustrates the same scene.
Covering Edenfield, Ewood Bridge, Irwell Vale, Lumb, Stubbins, Strongstry, Chatterton and Turn over the last 100 or so years this charming collection opens a window into views which were familiar to previous generations and show long-vanished buildings, changing modes of transport and the residents of the area at work and at play.
Many poignant memories are given a new lease of life, offering a trip down memory lane for some; for others this book will be a delightful voyage of discovery.

A History of Edenfield and District by John Simpson
John’s previous book Edenfield: Life in a Lancashire Village covered the period from 1500 to 1770.
This interesting book (published 2003) continues the story of Edenfield and its neighbours – Turn, Stubbins, Irwell Vale and Ewood Bridge through the Industrial Revolution to the present day.

The Society was formed in 1983 to generate and maintain interest in local history - particularly that associated with Edenfield, Ewood Bridge, Irwell Vale, Shuttleworth, Stubbins and Turn.
Meetings are usually held at 7:30 pm on the third Monday of the month often with visiting speakers. We try to have talks on historical topics from within Lancashire. Visits and walks take place in the summer months. An annual subscription is £10 (£7 concessions). Visitors are always welcome - and with a charge of only £1.50 a meeting why not come for a taster session!
