EVRA - Summary of Minutes of 16th November 2011 Meeting
There were 12 committee members and 4 guests present with 9 apologies.
The guests were Reverend Dr John Illsley (the new Methodist Minister) and 3 residents of Edenfield.
There were reports on a few of the matters arising from previous minutes, which included the erection of new interactive speed signs for the village, the proposed change of speed limit on Burnley Road and the new arrangements for the X35 bus service to Manchester, pending a final solution to the withdrawal of the X44.
Reverend Illsley, with total regard to confidentiality, reported on the discussions that he had had with both the property managers of Chatterton Hey (CH) and senior managers of the Langley House Trust (LHT). He advised the meeting that the LHT had a 25-year lease on the building (until 2027), and had no intention of changing their plans to house at CH, non-child sex offenders and those coming under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA). He went on to explain the proposed staffing level at CH, the regular involvement of outside agencies and the fact that no offender would be allowed out un-supervised. Concerns were expressed that the rigour of scrutiny could well vary with a change of personnel and it was resolved to continue opposition to the proposals of the LHT.
There followed discussions and updates on the restoration of the public garden at the Blackburn/Burnley Road traffic lights, the agreed charitable donations, the provision of a Christmas tree for the churchyard and the Remembrance Ceremony. Furthermore it was reported that the refurbishment of the Community Centre toilets could now go ahead.
Final arrangements were made for the Seniors Citizen's Concert (10th December) and the Carols in the Churchyard (23rd December).
The Fete sub-committee then reported on progress to date and further suggestions were discussed.
Finally it was noted that the Olympic Flame would pass through the village on the 23rd June 2012.
Suggestions on how the village should mark the occasion would be discussed at the next meeting.
This was confirmed to be on Wednesday 18th January 2012.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our readers and Edenfield Residents
